Are you Ready For A Change of Diet?

When someone comes to me and say they want me to help them ‘change their diet’ I go over extensively what it is they are trying to achieve by changing their diet.

You see in the past, people have a misconception about change of diet. They see it as something temporary, short term, normally associated with weddings, holidays or special occassions. The thing is, it should be something we see as a ‘lifestyle change’, and something we should plan to do for the rest of our lives.
Changing your diet, is not just for the overweight, it is is for everyone who wants to live a healthier lifestyle. Eating whole foods instead of processed foods. Exercising more, instead of slouching on the couch. Improving their mindset as well as their body because the two go hand in hand.
So if you are tired, have ailments you now you shouldnt have, then maybe it is time to change your diet.

Lose Weight and Have Fun Doing It!

Losing weight can be fun!

Try getting together with a bunch of friends and help cheer each other on. Or join us on the Challenge....

I try to make it a competition on who can find the tastiest low calorie menu / meal for the week. It gets even better, when you can find low calorie deserts and cakes which are home made and you know all the ingredients that you personally put in them are healthy and low fat!

Going back to basics, cooking food from fresh produce makes dieting interesting and fun and not to mention healthy too!  I recently did a 10 day detox many of you have since followed and completed this too, and I found it fun buying all these vegetables I would not normally buy and making a meal out of the various combinations.

You can control what you put in your meals, how you cook your meals and the portion size, all  of which are important to successful weight management.  Of course the fun begins when you invite friends around for a 'healthy four course meal', all freshly cooked by yourself. Who would imagine losing weight and cooking delicious food all in the same sentence!

Exercising is also made easier when you have friends to do things with, to goad you along and to encourage you when you feel like you don't want to get out there in the cold, wind or rain! Come check out our Challenge Groups, which are designed to help provide support for those of you on the 90 day challenge.
You may also want to look at taking up activities you would not normally do, like line dancing, salsa or badminton something where you can have fun with others while building new friendships and support networks.

Don't get into the trap of weighing yourself too often. I would say once every two weeks is adequate enough, more importantly is measuring the inches you lose as this is a good indication of fat loss.  After all, that is why you are losing weight in the first place.

Have fun losing weight don't make it a chore and watch it all drop off!  After all you are now undertaking a massive lifestyle change, one that will stay with you long term.

If you want to join us on our next 90 day challenge click here and fill in the form for more info.

If you liked my post feel free to share this by email or twitter or facebook

I would love to hear your techniques on keeping yourself on track, post them in my comments box below…

It's that time of the year only 90 days or less left until December 'the feast season' is upon us.

Benefits for using Coconut or MCT OIL

Medium-chain triglycerides (or MCTs for short) are made up of medium-chain fatty acids. The “medium” refers to the length of their chemical structure: all fats are made up of strings of carbon and hydrogen. Short-chain fats (e.g. butyric acid) have fewer than 6 carbons. Long-chain fats (for example, the long-chain polyunsaturated fats EPA and DHA) have 13 to 21. Medium-chain fats are in the middle, with 6 to 12.

What are the Benefits of MCTs?

MCTs are very easy for the body to break down and use as energy. Think of long-chain fats as being like a whole piece of fruit and MCTs as being like a smoothie. If you eat the whole fruit, you have to put in a lot of effort chewing, but the smoothie you can just slurp right up almost without noticing. In your digestive system, MCTs are a little bit like that smoothie.
Because they’re so easy to absorb, MCTs are used therapeutically for people with malabsorption problems, like Crohn’s Disease.

They’re also great for anyone missing a gallbladder.

You might think from this that MCTs would promote weight gain (after all, if they’re so easy to absorb, and they’re used as a treatment for malnutrition, they’ve got to be a great weight gainer food, right?) but in fact, this isn’t true. MCTs don’t cause instant weight gain, and in fact they may even be a benefit for weight loss.

This study, for example, found that, over a 12-week period, subjects who got MCT oil lost about 2 pounds more than those who did not.
Other studies aren’t quite so optimistic though, and overall the evidence for weight loss is mixed.

This review goes over the potential for MCTs to aid weight loss by increasing satiety and raising the metabolic rate. The studies so far are promising – but here’s the catch: the effect is pretty small. The authors of the paper use kilojoules to measure energy instead of calories, but when you convert the units, you’ll see that few of the studies showed a benefit relevant to the real world. For example, one study found that 5 grams of MCT oil did indeed raise the metabolic rate of healthy men…by 11 calories a day. And that’s just not such an amazing benefit: you could burn more calories than that by walking for 5 minutes, or jumping rope slowly for 2 minutes.
That’s a bit of a let-down, but don’t give up yet: the hormonal and metabolic benefits might be more impressive.

This review covers the potential uses of MCTs for treating diabetes, hypertension, and the other elements of the metabolic syndrome: in various trials, MCTs have shown a lot of promise compared to other fats.
MCTs are also the ultimate ketogenic fat: in fact, they’re so powerful that adding MCTs to your diet can increase the number of carbs you can eat while staying in ketosis.
The bottom line: MCTs won’t necessarily help you burn a crazy amount of extra calories every day, but they may be beneficial to weight loss because they help in restoring normal metabolic function. And if you’re aiming for ketosis for any reason, MCTs will be your very best friend.

Doses in studies tend to vary from 5 to 50 grams – you could get the lower end of that from coconut oil used as part of regular cooking, but if you want closer to 50 grams, you’re going to need a supplement. You can take the supplement straight from the spoon, or put it into whatever you like; MCT oil has no taste or smell, so you can more easily blend it into smoothies (or yes, into your coffee).
On the other hand, coconut oil (and other food sources of MCTs) also has benefits above and beyond its MCT content. For example, the same grass-fed butter and dairy products that give you MCTs can also provide conjugated linoleic acid for a double whammy of weight-loss fats.
Ultimately, it comes down to whatever works for you. For general good health, cooking with coconut oil (or palm oil, or grass-fed dairy products) is probably completely adequate. But if you’re on the hunt for a weight-loss aid, you might need to get special MCT oil for the full effect.

Conclusion
MCTs aren’t a miracle weight-loss pill (nothing is a miracle weight-loss pill, unfortunately). But there’s some evidence that they’re mildly anti-obesogenic, and may help with weight loss. And if you’re really interested in MCTs specifically, adding MCT oil to your daily routine is one way to try a self-experimentand see whether or not they help you.
On the other hand, whole food sources of MCTs also have extra benefits (like other healthy fats) that pure MCT oil can’t provide. And some people just feel better getting their nutrition from whole foods, rather than relying on a lot of supplements. There’s no one right answer here; it’s all about what works for you – and now you have the information to choose wisely!

You can purchase MCT oil from my Amazon Store

Getting Over Your Plataeu

Hands up, if you've ever been on a weight loss diet, and you get to certain point and you can't seem to get any lower.

I know I have!

Many other people have too. So how do you get past this plateau.

Several suggestions here;

A)  stop dieting and go back onto a normal food plan for five days. However don't go crazy.

B) step up the exercise regime. Many a time the reason for a plateau is because your body has got used to the amount of calories going in and carries going out. Now is the time to step up your metabolic rate and do more on the cardio.

C) adjust your calorie intake. If you are losing weight, then your calorie intake will need to be reduced to so take a look at that and see if you can cut that down by about a third.

D) drink lots of water! Yes it's true, you need to drink a lot more water and also something to help you speed up your metabolism like green tea will help.

Now there are diet pills you can take to speed up your metabolism, but this is not something I advocate, however, Visalus do have a great product called metabwake that does exactly this.  It has natural ingredients, green tea, yerba mate, ginger, and much more.  You can get this product from any Bodybyvi Promoter or order using the link below.

Has The Christmas Turkey Got You Gaining A Few Pounds?

It's that time of year, when it is so easy to indulge in all the lovely food prepared by your mothers, aunts, sisters, friends and the like.

Why is it that once a year we tend to really PIG OUT and eat about a zillion calories all in two to three days over the Christmas Period.

Then, when our skirts or jeans feel a little tight we moan about it, then make that fatale New Years Resolution to lose some weight!

How many people out there will stick to a new exercise and eat healthy regime for longer than two weeks? The answer sadly is not many.

So how can you begin to lose those calories and inches succesfully without having to feel guilty about it?

First things first, YOU have to be mentally prepared to go the distance and aim to lose the weight goal you have put in place for yourself.

Secondly, who will make you accountable for your actions? If you get a weight loss buddy this will help you both to keep on trace.

Third, be prepared, it is when we are least prepared with our daily snacks and food that we tend to binge eat, or snack on the wrong things. If you plan your daily menu from breakfast, lunch and dinner with two healthy snacks in between, this is the first step to becoming succesful in losing those additional pounds.

Make sure the food you eat is one that you like, and does not have to be 'diet food', just eat sensible, and cut out junk food, cakes and biscuits and soda where possible.

Fourth, have an exercise regime, this could be a 30 minute walk at lunch time, or find an activity that you enjoy, such as salsa, pole dancing or otherwise. Going to the gym can be isolating and boring, and if you are not a self motivated person then you will be wasting a lot of money joining up.

More hints and tips coming your way so watch out for these in coming blog posts.

Diet Is A Dirty Word

Why is it that when you say you're going on a diet your mind plays tricks on you.

As soon as the word 'diet' is mentioned, all your favourite foods come to mind. I bet these foods are Cakes, chocolate, cheese, and so forth.

We immediately think of all the foods that we cannot have normally unhealthy ones.

It should not be thought of as being restrictive, It should be thought of as a lifestyle, something that we should take forward to be seen in a positive light.

How many times if you heard someone say they are going on a diet and they can't have ______ Fill in the blank.

Dieting is about eating the right foods the right portion sizes, the right amount of protein, carbohydrates, fats, minerals et cetera.

The sad thing is, that we all know deep down what is good for us and what is not. However, convenience foods, processed foods, fast food just makes it easier to grab something on the run.

This is where the benefits of having a liquid meal replacement can help improve your diet intake. You don't have to think about the number of calories, or the fat content, Or whether it is good or bad for you. Research is now showing that having a liquid meal replacement to kickstart your diet is a good and positive thing.

The problem with most diets is food preparation, and people not having time to prepare their meals. A liquid meal replacement takes minutes to blend, and you can add fresh fruits or vegetables, thus ensuring you're getting some of your five a day.

As part of any diet we should also be looking at exercising.
As well as looking to decrease our calorie intake, we should also be looking to increase our metabolic rate. Depending on the weather we should be looking to get out at least once a day and doing some form of exercise, walking is a great way to lose weight.

The great thing is if we can put exercise into our normal day-to-day routines and make this form a part of our habits then we will naturally lose weight and keep it off.

Lose The Emotional Baggage If You Want To Lose Weight

I have been working with clients who want to lose weight for over ten years now, and what I see is that it's not just about eating sensibly, or going on a diet. You have to look deeper than that.

Alot of people put on weight over a long period of time, then it is only when something enlightening crosses their path, for example illness, hearing of a friend who is affected by being overweight that people tend to look at themselves.

When you make that emotional decision to lose weight, to improve your health, it is the first step on a long road to mental wellbeing and weightloss success.

Understanding what your emotional and food triggers are also help to keep you on track. This is where having a good weightloss coach can help you.

As much as we try to lose weight on our own, it's hard, and there will be days when you struggle to eat anything healthy at all.

Having someone who you are accountable to helps. It is also encouraging for you to hear others struggle and how they got over their barriers, stories inspire,so it is important to share your own.

Having emotional baggage can impinge on your weightloss success, so you need to find a way to ease and release your emotional baggage and using self affirmations can help.

So if you are dieting but keep having false starts, look deeper than just trying out the diet. You have to have an end goal in mind.

The Body By Vi Challenge gives you the grounding for setting yourself a goal broken downing 90 day chunks, so that it is achievable.

You are also asked to declare your challenge to others, making yourselves accountable,

You are then encouraged to track your progress and enter a competition to win some money to put towards a new wardrobe! We could all do with some new clothes when we lose weight right.

You get support from fellow challengers and you are also encouraged to share your experiences, ideas, shakes, exercises, thoughts and to encourage others on our Facebook page.

It's called 'The Challenge' because its not easy, if it was then everyone would be dropping weight like bees in a honey pot!

The Challenge, challenges you to achieve and complete your 90 day aim and be rewarded by it.

So, if you are serious and want to fight your way back to fitness, challenge yourself and clicking the link below.

Weight Loss epidemic in UK Britain Fat Capital Of Europe!

Wow, over the last few days I've been seeing on the news on the telly information that the UK is known as the fat Capital of Europe!

I'm sure this has been public knowledge for the last 15 or more years.

I've been around in the weight loss industry for the last 10 years and at the time we were known as the fact capital of Europe.

Little has been done during that time to address the obesity facts and the issues surrounding lifestyle in today's modern world.

Our children are getting lazy, sitting in front of their PCs or playing with mobile phones. No longer outside writing their bicycles rollerskating playing football or running around playing ball games

Similarly, with adults they are sitting around watching television, going to work then sitting around in the office, no real form of exercise or activity during their time at work. Eating high quantities of process food, or even purchasing takeaway's.

As parents, we are responsible for improving the lifestyle of our children going forwards. As adults you are responsible for yourself and your longevity.

It's really sad, the facts are that parents or more likely to outlive their children in today's times because of the obesity epidemic.

But there are things that we can start to do to improve our lives and our children's lives.

With all the recent scandal here in the UK about horsemeat being found in processed foods, the obvious answer here is to start cooking food from fresh reducing the content of red meat in our lives. Including more fresh vegetables and fruits in our diets and including more exercise

Spending more time with your children outdoors, playing games as a family can also have a great effect going forward and helping children to improve their home / family life but also to bring that down into their lives as parents going forward to help their own children.
There is something that you can do about your lifestyle now.

Even if you are just a few pounds overweight you can start to improve your health and your well-being by eating more healthier and putting an exercise program in place.

I'm not talking about going to the gym here. Just look at different ways you can change, instead of taking the car take a walk, instead of taking the lift, climbed the stairs.

What are your thoughts? Leave me a comment below

More Fibre More Weightloss!

Here are 10 top sources of fibre which will help you lose weight.
Fibre fills you up and also it aids waste elimination and constipation.

1. Beans. Think three-bean salad, bean burritos, chili, soup.
2. Whole grains. That means whole-wheat bread, pasta, etc.
3. Brown rice. White rice doesn't offer much fiber.
4. Popcorn. It's a great source of fiber.
5. Nuts. Almonds, pecans, and walnuts have more fiber than other nuts.
6. Baked potato with skin. It's the skin that's important here.
7. Berries. All those seeds, plus the skin, give great fiber to any berry.
8. Bran cereal. Actually, any cereal that has 5 grams of fiber or more in a serving counts as high fiber.
9. Oatmeal. Whether its microwaved or stove-cooked, oatmeal is good fiber.
10. Vegetables. The crunchier, the better.

Weight Loss- Why Am I Not Losing My Weight?

So,you want to lose weight, your eating rabbit food 7 days a week, and your kind of doing some exercise, but somehow your weight does not seem to be coming down.

Ok, let's be serious, you have been steadily losing weight over the last month or two or possibly more, then all of a sudden your weight seems to stubbornly refuse to go beyond a certain point on the scale.

This is known as reaching a 'plateau'.  This is more common than most people think.  So how do you get beyond your plateau?

Quick Tips To Come Off That Plateau
  • First off, are you drinking enough water? Water is really important and helps with the weight loss process. If you donot ingest enough water your body actually holds on to the water, therefore you can appear to be bloated, or not to lose weight as fat needs water to break it down.
  • Adjust your calorie intake.  Too often when clients first go on a weight loss program, they stick to the same calorie intake from day one, you should be constantly adjusting your calorie intake as you lose the weight.
  • Remember your body is a clever complicated piece of equipment.  It calculates how much calories you need to maintain your 'normal state', which encompasses, breathing, moving, eating, digestion etc and then balances the energy needed to do all those things with the energy you are using when you exercise or do other things.
  • Step up the exercise routine, too often your body quickly assesses how much calories you are eating and using, and then addresses the body fat burning process accordingly. That is what makes us humans so unique.  So in order to fool your body, burn even more energy than you are consuming.  Do some intense exercising to increase the 'burn' rate which in turn will aid fat reduction.
  • Add more fibre to your program. Fibre is responsible for breaking down fat, adding extra fibre to your program will help to break your plateau, as well as helping to break down fat, it will help to make the digestive system run smoothly if you are feeling sluggish.
So use these tips and break that plateau.

To your weightloss success
