Getting Back Into Shape - Have Fun With It!

Today's blog post is about having fun on a weight loss program. You shouldn't think of this as a program per se it's a lifestyle change, it's a way of future living.
Our mindset has to be changed because when we mention the word 'diet' we immediately think restrictions.
When in fact
The original meaning of diet is Middle English: from Old French diete (noun), dieter (verb), via Latin from Greek diaita 'a way of life'.

So in actual fact one should not be looking at a diet as restricting one's intake of food but as a way of life!

Now we got the meaning out of the way, let's have some fun with it. Look at your current habits, do you just go to work come home,  eat, sit down in front of the TV then go to bed?

The first thing you have to do is to

change your habits....

Had a hard day at stressful, hard day at work? Go for a long walk before coming home to clear your head, listen to music that will bring positivity into your 'being' or get to the GYM to work out your frustrations there.

Go Shopping and pick up all the wrong snacks?? Yep hands up I have too.  Do you know why? because you are hungry and you just get the wrong taste up in your head when you are walking around the isles.  Instead always make a list and make sure you eat first, before you go shopping, that way you won't impulse buy the wrong foods.

Hands up if your guilty of wanting to go to the GYM, but after you came back home from work to pick up your gym kit you just couldnt make it back out the door....
Try instead, getting yourself into a routine, bring your gym kit with you, and either try a lunch time workout, or go straight after work, don't stop home first...

Personally I find that first thing in the morning is good with me, as I can get my workout  out of the way and it leaves me feeling invigorated!

Motivation! or lack of right...
Make sure you partner up with a few friends or people with a vested interest and see if you can do regular workouts together.  Survey's have shown that people who are successful at losing weight do so with accountability partners.

So that's it my short post on sticking to a programme and getting the most out of it.

Detox Day 5 - Breaking Your Cleanse

You have done it.... well done all!

Now the most important part it to come of your cleanse the right way. You want to end your detox gradually, slowly incorporating your regular foods back into your diet.
Keep it simple...
Use easy to digest foods such as steamed vegetables, proteins such as nuts, legumes, wehy or eggs.  If you are introducing meat back into your programme, choose organic chicken, or fish rather than red meats
Keep to portion sizes, as especially after detoxing your stomach may have shrunk as you were having liquids and eating cleaner, raw foods in smaller portions.  When you eat slowly and eat smaller portions, you will find how much food you really need to feel full. Take time to appreciate the flavours and how good food tastes especially when you haven't tasted it for a while.
I know we have all been to fancy restaurants and seen some of the portion sizes and laughed to ourselves thinking we are going to starve and will have to go outside the restaurant and get a take away or snack after wards, but actually when you savour the food, chat and socialise, eat slower, you find it does fill you up.  Try doing the same at home with family, turn off the TV and enjoy the flavours and conversation and company.

More tips on breaking your cleanse the right way

Drink more water. It’s the best way to flush toxins out of the body.
•    Chew slowly. Digestion begins in the mouth.
•    Avoid overeating. Less is more, especially when breaking a cleanse.
•    Keep it simple. Avoid eating too many different foods in one meal to ease digestion.
•    Find a good probiotic. Good bacteria keep your digestive tract healthy.
•    Pay attention to your elimination habits.
•    Eat organic where possible or wash fruit and vegetables thoroughly and avoid processed foods. Cleaner food means fewer toxins.
•    Avoid alcohol. It’s toxic.
•    Exercise. You’ll sweat out toxins as you move.
•    Take time to meditate. Deep breathing helps cleanse the body.

Detox Day 3 - Benefits of Detoxing

So, what is great about detoxin?  If you have never detoxed before then here are some benefits why you need to do this more often.

Detoxification is the process of removing toxins from the body. The process to detoxify your body involves many different elements such as herbal detoxification regimens, change of diet and vitamin supplements. It is one of the best ways to rid your body of toxins, which can slow it down and make it unhealthy. The process of detoxification requires some discipline.

Physical Benefits

The most noticeable benefits from detoxification are the physical ones. Since the toxins store up in major organs, detoxification will help these areas the most. The organs which are affected, such as the liver and stomach, will begin to work more effectively. After the detox is completed, you may feel "lighter" and have more energy. Also, since a detox is used to clear away free radicals, your body's immune system will be stronger and you will have a lower risk of getting illnesses.  Finally, a detoxification regimen will clear your blood, helping it circulate better.

Mental Benefits

Toxins and free radicals that accumulate in the body can also affect brain functions. Before a detox, you may have trouble sleeping, chronic fatigue, and trouble with your concentration. Once you work through this process, many of these issues will gradually disappear. You will be able to sleep better and concentrate more.

Lifestyle Changes

A benefit which most people don't think of can be the change to your lifestyle. As you progress through the body detox, you will begin to feel better physically and mentally. This feeling can be addictive and lead to changing your lifestyle to cut out bad elements which give your body those toxins. Quitting smoking, eating better, and getting more exercise are all actions which help protect the body. After a detox is a perfect time to begin these actions.

Tomorrow is Day 4 and as we prepare towards the end of our 5 day detox, we are announcing a NEW Challenge which starts Monday 12th January, so stay posted....

Detox Day 2 - Stepping it up....

So here we are on Day 2, you may have felt a little headachy yesterday, but you should be getting over it today.

Turning to a smoothie for one of your meals is a great way to jumpstart your metabolism and to kick your digestive system into overdrive. You will notice that natural energy that you feel and you will also enjoy that some of the symptoms that you suffer with daily are gone with this natural boost.

So today we are going to do a GREEN Smoothie as follows:
This green smoothie will help detox the liver and also get some great antioxidants, protein and other great micro nutrients into your body to help the immune system.

Ingredients:
Spinach - handful
Celery -1 stalk
Cucumber - leave skin on or if waxed, then peel
Apple (Cored - leave skin on)
Ginger (1/2 inch)
6 cubes of ice and liquid of choice....
(2 scoops of Vi shake mix - optional)

Look out for my smoothie on the facebook page! post yours below....

Lunch today can be a mixed green veggie salad like runner beans, carrots, broccoli, peas tossed in spinach or kale, add protein, i.e. fish or chicken or leave if vegetarian.

Snacks can include nuts, raisins and fruit or vegetables.

Make sure you are drinking lots and lots of water.  Don't forget to prepare your detox water.  at least 8-10 if not more glasses of water while detoxing.

Massage to help cleanse toxins:

If  you are interested in getting rid of toxins in the body, you absolutely have to get a good intense massage that focuses greatly on the pressure points within the body.
A typical Swedish massage is good, but something more intense and focused like a Sports massage can work even better.

You want to get deep into the muscle tissue to make this work for you. When you push on these pressure points or spots where toxins tend to build up, then you give them a chance to release.
This helps you to naturally detox the body and get rid of the things that may have been making you sick.
Be sure that this comes from a registered massage therapist and that they know what they are doing in terms of ridding the body of toxins. To make it work effectively you want to drink a lot of water afterwards to flush out the system and be sure that the toxins leave the body immediately. Get into this as a regular habit and you will feel a very positive effect from it, above and beyond relaxation at the core.

Hope your enjoying the detox so far... let me know how you are getting on and any questions you have by commenting below :)

Until tomorrow....

Detox Day 1 - Weightloss Challenge

Hey everyone Day One
, hope it wasnt too bad for you.... leave a comment and let me know how it went!

Detoxing is a way to help the body heal and to cleanse the body of toxins.  Therefore you will feel a bit tired for the first 1-3 days, and you may get all headachy.  This is normal, as your body is getting rid of the toxins you are holding through the foods we eat.

After the rich eating of the festive season, it is a good thing to prepare the body for weightloss rather than go straight into a full blown diet. Detoxing opens up the digestive system and also puts you in a discipline to restrict certain foods and re-introduce others slowly.

Questions and Answers on Detox:

Some of you had questions so I thought I would answer them here on my blog:
Q: Can I drink Roibos tea?
A: Yes, any herbal tea is fine on this detox.

Q: I have started to get headaches in the afternoon, is this normal?
A: Yes this is totally normal, please ensure you drink plenty of water.  The reason for the headaches is because you have changed your diet, and your body is getting rid of the toxins, this will take 1-3 days, you should fell energised after that.

Q: Can I have Carbs?
A: For this detox we are cutting out Rice and Bread and Potatoes as well as anything made with flour.

Q: Can I have Pasta?
A: Yes you can but limit this to a couple of days in the programme

Q: Can I have Alcohol?
A: No, it is not adviseable to have alcohol while detoxing.

Q:What about Caffeine?
A: No Coffee and no tea for the next 5 days.
