What To Eat For Snacks

Snacking is the number one downfall for most diets....

I know we all do it, have a quick biscuit here and there, you can never seem to stop at one!

Here are some healthy snacking tips for you to follow and enjoy.  Always try to eat organic snacks, grains, vegetables, fruits and nuts.  These will help with sustaining your blood sugar levels.

  • Avoid preservatives, white flours, refined sugars, food colorings and artificial flavors.
  • Read labels and look at calorie amounts and fat content as well as salt and sugar levels.
  • Snacks should be maximum of 120 calories or less.  Ensure that you build your snack calories into your day to day meal plan.
  • Avoid excessive alcohol as this adds loads of calories
  • Prepare your snacks in advance.  The worst thing is eating out of a packet or box as you are more than likely to eat the whole thing.  If you put them onto a small plate or into a ready made snacking back (portioned out), this will help.
  • Get rid of temptation foods.  So, if you have the wrong type of snacks available, you need to give them away or get rid of them. If there are no temptations in your fridge or pantry or cupboard, you are less likely to go off track.
  • Have healthy snacks available.  Put fruit out on the table so that these are easily reached.

So what kind of snack ideas can you use:
  • cruditities with humus or with a light dip
  • handful of nuts,almonds, walnuts,cashews, peanuts, hazelnuts
  • berries,
  • dried fruit
  • fresh fruit
  • Rye bread, or crackers with light toppings.

The main thing to remember is however many calories go in, you need more to come out.
Exercise is essential for weight loss so I don't have to keep on harping on about it!

SO what is your favourite low calorie snack, share it with me in the comments below :)

The best one will get a box of Herbalife Snack Bars (flavour of your choice)!

Healthy Snacking Doesn’t Have To Be A Chore

So, your on a diet, it’s hard most snacks are now going to be out of range.  The gremlins strike and your stomach is craving fatty foods, sweets and chocolates.

Sound familiar?  Yep, been there done that and it only puts you on a back slider and in the doldrums.  So, apart from ensuring you are eating enough of the right calories, including enough proteins, then you shouldn’t have the sugar attacks.

I found a great website that can help you with swapping out bad snacks for good snacks.

You can also try out our Herbalife healthy snacks
·         Protein Bars in a range of flavours, Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut and Lemon
·         Tomato Soup
·         Soya Nuts (for those of you who are savoury snackers)
Go visit the store to find out more รจ http://healthyweightloss.herbalcoach.com

Personally, I love nuts and always have a bag of mixed unsalted nuts with raisins and dried fruit around.  As with any snack eat within limitation and don’t gorge yourself on them, they can be high on the old calorie front.

Yours in health

Super Foods - 10 Healthiest foods

This healthy food list consists of foods that have more nutrients per calorie than most other foods. They have also been shown to contain vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that prevent disease: from cancer to heart disease to arthritis, and many more.

These super foods are ideal for heart healthy, low fat cooking. We should include the 10 healthiest as part of a healthy eating program on a regular basis. Our list of super foods is arranged alphabetically, not in order of importance.

The 10 Healthiest Foods
  • 1 Berries
Berries are extremely rich in antioxidants which help protect the cells in our bodies from diseases like cancer. They are also an excellent source of Vitamin C and soluble fiber.
  • 2 Broccoli
Broccoli (and other cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower and cabbage) helps fight cancer, especially affecting the breast, colon and lung. It boosts the immune system.
  • 3 Citrus Fruits
The citrus bioflavanoids in oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit have anti-cancer properties.
  • 4 Garlic
Numerous studies have shown that garlic can lower blood pressure and decrease LDL cholesterol (the "bad" one) while increasing the good HDL cholesterol.
  • 5 Nuts
Walnuts are an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids that protect us against heart disease. Almonds can also help lower LDL cholesterol levels.
  • 6 Oats
Oats help reduce cholesterol. Oats are also an excellent grain for diabetics as they have less impact on blood sugar levels than some other grains.
  • 7 Salmon
The Omega-3 fatty acids in salmon and other fatty fish may help prevent heart disease and stroke.
  • 8 Spinach
Spinach's secret weapon, lutein, makes it one of the best foods in the world to prevent cataracts, as well as age related macular degeneration, the primary cause of preventable blindness in the elderly.
  • 9 Tomatoes
Tomatoes contain high levels of lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps to protect against cancer, particular cancer of the prostate.
  • 10 Turkey
Turkey is especially lean and low in calories, making it an excellent healthy food choice. Turkey also contains selenium which has been shown to inhibit cancer development, improve the immune system, and aid in the metabolism of our thyroid hormone. Next time you cook a turkey, be sure to make the most of the turkey leftovers.
The top 10 healthiest foods, or "super foods", are easy to fit into a healthy diet. By consuming these super foods on a regular basis you can easily gain many health benefits.
