Love Foods to Get You In The Mood!

So who had a lovely Valentine's day?

I hope you were all treated extra special, not that it should actually be for one day a year, if you are special it should be for every day right?

OK I don't want to be creating drama in your households now.. lol!

Today we are going to look at some foods that can enhance your 'love mood', you may know them as aphrodisiacs.  These are foods that stir some form of emotion and feeling throughout the body when eaten.

Chocolate
Not for nothing is chocolate’s Latin name Theobroma or “food of the gods.” It contains phenylethylamine, similar to the drug that’s released when you fall in love, and also tryptophan, a building block of serotonin, which makes you elated. All of which will hopefully make you feel like a true love god. I thought there was a reason why us women get an orgasm over chocolate fountains...

Saffron
The costliest spice in the world. Saffron’s aphrodisiac effect comes from ginseng, the yellow crocus stamens were shown to genuinely improve sexual function.
Steak
Steak may be a man’s best friend, but there is evidence it’s the way to a woman’s heart too. Protein-rich lean red meat boosts level of reward hormone dopamine and norepinephrine, which increases the heart rate. Both, according to studies at the University of Texas, may be important in female arousal. Not that they aren’t great for men too, with a good dose of zinc (albeit not up there with oysters) which helps guard against impotence
Champagne
“Love is like being enlivened with Champagne,” said Samuel Johnson, and whether it’s the extravagance or the effervescence, it does feel sexy – especially for women. While too much booze is clearly a passion killer for both sexes, small amounts of alcohol increase arousal in females.
Asparagus and Avacado
Asparagus, high in potassium, fibre, vitamin B6, vitamins A and C, is great for boosting both the male and female libido. Add this aphrodisiac to your dinner this Valentine's Day and it may be beneficial to you later in steaming up the bedroom. Avocado, rich in folic acid, vitamin B6, and potassium, also increases the libido.
Oysters
Oysters, the ultimate in aphrodisiacs, contain zinc, which enhances libido and increases sperm and testosterone levels. Also high in omega-3, they advocate happiness, so explore the option of breaking out the shells this Valentine's Day.

Curing Depression Can Help You Lose Weight!

It all makes sense to me, and possibly to many of you, but I found this interesting article online that discusses the fact that improving your mood and the way in which you think about yourself will help you to lose weight...

Most nutritionists have long advocated that most of the time people eat for comfort because of an event or moment in their life, where they feel unhappy, unsure of themselves or emotionally insecure.

Understanding and identifying your triggers that make you 'eat the whole tub of icecream' or chocolate cake when you don't really fell like eating, or where you eat to gain some comfort is the key to losing weight.  In the meantime, it is hard work to try and start a diet where you reduce your calorie intake and possibly most of those comfort foods that make you 'feel good'.

This is why diets where you don't have to count your calories or worry about fat, fibre or carbohydrate contents and ones that are easy to prepare are the most helpful in getting the weight off, while you figure out the emotional side of eating.

Some see liquid diets as 'fads', but recently the NHS here in the UK commended them as a useful way to help people lose weight healthily, and to sustain their weight.

Visalus shakes are such liquid food, and with over 2,000,000 people in North America using the shakes and losing weight, keeping it off and getting results, it is worth looking at.  So with them about to launch here in the UK, here is an exciting opportunity to get on board early and lose weight, gain financially if you so wish and get your life back.

Mood Foods and How They Affect Your Diet

We have all done it... what am I talking about?   Eating when we are unhappy or depressed or sad.  We always tend to eat the wrong things at that!  So I am about to reveal some foods that put you in a good mood, and also tell you about the ones to steer clear off.

The body cannot produce tryptophan, this is an amino acid which is converted by the body into serotonin, so unless we get enough through our diets, we may suffer a deficiency, leading to low serotonin levels.
Low serotonin levels are associated with mood disorders, anxiety, cravings and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).  SO eating the following foods will help improve your serotonin levels amongst other things.

Top 10 Good Mood Foods
mung beans
• lobster
• turkey
• asparagus
• sunflower seeds
• cottage cheese
• pineapple
• tofu
• spinach
• bananas
Others include my favourite - dark chocolate, chicken, tuna, nuts and oats.

Foods to avoid when feeling low -
The following foods tend to make you sluggish and do not really add value nutrient wise.
  • Avoid fatty foods, or fried foods
  • Diet Drinks or fizzy drinks
  • Fried Foods
  • Junk Food
  • Artificial sweeteners

A few tips:
  1. Eat a diet that includes plenty of raw fruit and vegetables, soybeans (nice snack) and soy products, whole grains, seeds, nuts (seeds and nuts a great snack to carry around with you when you’re peckish), brown rice, a diet that is too low in complex carbs can cause serotonin depletion.
  2. If you are feeling nervous and want to relax, eat more complex carbs, for increased alertness protein meals containing essential fatty acids eg: salmon and white fishes; turkey and salmon are high in tryptophan and protein.
  3. Avoid diet drinks and artificial sweeteners, aspartame has been claimed to block the formation of serotonin and cause headaches, insomnia and depression.
  4. Avoid foods high in saturated fats, meat and fried foods, eg: hamburgers and french fries, they can lead to sluggishness, slow thinking and fatigue.
  5. Try and avoid alcohol, caffeine and processed foods.
  6. Keep your mind active, try and get some rest and exercise

Hope you have found this information useful, happy eating!
