5 Top Foods To Aid Thyroidism

An early  sign of hypothyroidism is weight gain.  Therefore it's really important to look at the foods that you're eating and to ensure that these top five friendly foods are added to your shopping list. 

Fresh fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are very low in calories that are high density foods that are rich in a number of micronutrients which are essential to helping increase the  thyroxine levels in the body.  Make sure that you eat plenty of fresh fruit or veggetables at each meal. Specific fruits such as blueberries, cherrries and starches such as sweet potatoes and green peppers are also rich in antioxidants, nutrients that are known to lower the risk of heart disease amongst other things.  Beware of eating Grapefruits and anything with calcium i.e.  with taking the medication as Grapefruits and calcium are known to interfere with Thyroid medication.  You should eat these 1 hour after taking your medication. 

Nuts

Nuts  are very high in selenium  and they make a healthy snack that you can take anywhere. Brazil nuts, macadamia nuts and hazelnuts are very high in synonym which helps the thyroid function properly. However, nuts are also very fattening so you be careful how many you are eating and keep an eye on portion size. 

Fish

Eating oily fish with omega three fatty acid is such as wild salmon, trout, sardines, or tuna can also decrease the risk of heart disease, was that the same time improving their bodies immune system. Heart disease and only results in higher levels of low-density library proteins (LDL) the bad cholesterol. Omega three is on knowing to decrease inflammation, and help with lowering the risk of heart disease and help improve the immunity system in our bodies. Fish is also very high in the nutrient selenium, which helps to decrease inflammation and also helps with weight loss. 

Whole  Grains


Including whole grain foods such as cereal, pasta, rice, bread are high in nutrients in addition to fibre which can help with bowel regularity, as constipation is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. 
Recommendations are to take your thyroid medication several hours before or after eating food rich in dietary fibre as the fibre can interfere with Synthetic thyroid hormones. 


Beans

If you are feeling tired or drained, beans can be a great source of energy which can be helpful. Beans contain protein, antioxidants, complex hydrates, and loads of vitamins and minerals. There are also very high in fibre, which again can help with constipation.
